Conference on European Contract Law

EU Consumer Law Revision and the CFR
Towards an optional instrument
Trier, 18 - 19 March 2010
The final version of the Draft Common Frame of Reference (DCFR) was published in October 2009. At present, the European Commission is carrying out a selection process to determine which parts of the academic DCFR will be included in the final CFR.

The conference will discuss content and perspectives of a future ‘political’ CFR. It will then discuss the state of play of the future Consumer Rights Directive and ask whether and how the development of the CFR and EU consumer contract legislation could be synchronised and connected.

Taking into account the positions of the European Commission, the Council of the EU and the European Parliament, on the second conference day participants will discuss whether the CFR can serve as an ‘optional instrument’.

Speakers: Professor Christian von Bar, Osnabrück; Professor Hugh Beale, Warwick; Mr Alain Brun, DG JLS, European Commission, Brussels; Professor Eric Clive, Edinburgh; Professor Bénédicte Fauvarque-Cosson, Paris; Mr Rafael Gil Nievas, Brussels; Professor Piotr Machnikowski, Wroclaw; Dr Chantal Mak, Amsterdam; Professor Guillermo Palao Moreno, Valencia; Ms Nuria Rodríguez Murillo, Brussels; Mr Patrice Pellegrino, Brussels; Professor Hans Schulte-Nölke, Osnabrück; Professor Matthias Storme, Antwerp; Ms Diana Wallis, MEP, Brussels/Strasbourg
