Call for Papers: Consumer Protection

The Centre for European Law and Legal Studies at Leeds University, in association
with the Institute of Commercial and Corporate Law at Durham University, will be
hosting a duo-colloquium entitled Consumer Protection in Europe: Theory and
Practice in Leeds on 16/17 December 2009. The conference will explore the concept
of Consumer Protection in Europe in the context of the proposed new Consumer
Rights Directive, efforts to consolidate the consumer acquis and proposals for a
Common Frame of Reference. Contributions making reference to consumer protection
in financial services are particularly welcome.
Proposals for papers, in the form of an abstract of a maximum of 300 words, are now
invited from scholars throughout the EU with an interest in consumer protection. The
organisers are particularly keen to receive proposals with socio-legal, theoretical,
inter-disciplinary or comparative flavours. All proposals will be subject to panel
review by referees. It may be possible to offer some financial support towards the
costs of travel and accommodation. The deadline for the submission of proposals is 1
August 2009.
It is anticipated that the proceedings will be published as a major edited volume.
